Expanding Pathways Collaborative
Shared Lane convenes a cross-sector learning community of High Schools and Career Training organizations to expand postsecondary options for NYC youth—particularly those with the most systemic barriers. Workforce Training providers, community colleges, high schools and school facing intermediaries are invited to join the ‘Expanding Pathways Collaborative’ (ExPC).

We do not have strong systems in place to support students to smoothly transition from high school to quality workforce training programs.
What We Do
Shared Lane convenes an in-person professional learning series that takes place at rotating career training sites. We create opportunities for professionals from high school and workforce training sectors to network and support young people to more seamless transition from high school to career training programs.
We collectively generated 10 ideas to improve career pathways for NYC youth.

“If there is a community connecting workforce development staff and high school staff, that should definitely be a thing in order to make these transitions much easier, much more accessible. This would quell the accumulated skepticism.”

“... we need to create a system that doesn’t throw people out into the world with some vague sense of an idea of who they can be. We need a strong system that supports people as they step out of high school. You know, being 18, it’s hard for sure. You’re dealing with a lot of uncertainty. And so I think … there just needs to be a general shift away from copy and paste traditional paths.”
